Probabilistic Matching

Often when an organization owns a large customer database as part of their CRM or ERP system, a new challenge arises: connecting partner-provided customer lead or sales information to this rich inhouse customer data set. The data received likely doesn’t match the information in the customer system, so a different kind of computing tool is needed to match the two data sets together.

 

Probabilistic matching is a process where two similar data sets are broken down into identifiable information and compared to each other to determine matching records. For example a CRM customer list and a dealer-provided sales tracing report may both contain physical address, phone number, organization name and doctor name. With this information, Elevation Data Group’s Probabilistic Matching program breaks down each component and “tokenizes” the field to normalize the values. Then, the system compares each sales record to each CRM record and scores the match probability for each component. The component scores are weighted and combined according to custom rules that fit the organizations match risk profile, and the output records are given a final match probability.

 

The art of probabilistic matching gives organizations a way to accurately blend data with no common unique identifier, unlocking a more sophisticated level of intelligence and the recognition of unseen opportunity.

 

Territory Analysis
